A chance to breathe in some fresh sea air and feast your eyes on some of the most enchanting landscapes of the Costa Brava. Spanning around 20km, this is one of the largest almost virgin coastal areas of Catalonia. Starting at the villa, we head southbound across the cadiretes massif, full of sweet-smelling cork trees and mediterranean pines.
This ride combines delightful, flowing narrow paths and single-tracks that wind their way down towards the town of Tossa de Mar.
We begin the day with a coffee by the sea, alongside breathtaking views looking out onto the transparent waters of the local beach. Then we set on our ride through Tossa, a quintessential old town, one of the most charming places in the Costa Brava.
At the end of the day, we journey back into the mountains for a sumptuous dinner, accompanied by a dazzling sunset.
Today we ride trails along the coastline heading towards the north face of the massif, lined with granite rock formations. Most of the trails were built by charcoal manufacturers a long time ago and ever since have become single-tracks, each pass dotted with Moab-style slick rocks.
Being a region that possesses a wealth of history, along the way you will encounter several ancient monasteries and churches.
Once reaching Sant Feliu, we take a break to replenish on the beach, taking in some sea, sun and sand before we head back home.
Today’s route is on the neighbouring massif called “Les Gavarres”, where we’ll ride through the forests around Romanyà de la Selva and where settled is a cute little town with a 10th century church and typical Catalan peirale houses. On this route, we pass by several prehistoric monuments, such as the Murtra menhir and the Cova d’en Daina Dolmen, dating from 2000 BC.
The Gavarres is the smallest mountain range in Girona and offers an interesting mix of steep and winding sections. The average trails here are short and the soil is pretty dry and loose for most of the way.
